According to Hollywood Reporter’s web site, “The depth and breadth of the catalog is what truly makes it great, and I strongly believe that the addition of the Famous catalog and its songwriters to Sony/ATV is another step in our long-range growth plans,” said Chairman/CEO Marty Bandier.
The web site went on to say, “Famous, the music publishing arm of Paramount Pictures, includes 25.000 songs with such hits as ‘Moon River,’ ‘Take My Breath Away,’ and ‘Footloose.’ It also includes movie themes from Braveheart, The Godfather, Forrest Gump and Mission Impossible. Contemporary hits includes songs by Shakira, Linda Perry, Akon and Daniel Powter.”
According to BusinessWeek’s web site, “Viacom owns cable networks such as MTV and VH1…with 125,000 songs and sound cues, was its only property in the music business. Through its Extreme division, Famous Music also supplies recordings and musical compositions for use in television and radio advertisements, film and television productions, trailers and major network and cable broadcast promos.”
